Bees have long been a symbol of Health and Strength yet to this day the strange phenomena of thier sudden death remains unresolved and continuous. The species continues to fail at alarming rates. The above works are from Opened Apples Exhibition by one very special Gail Potocki. The collection speaks volumes. Ive mentioned it before here, but I always find myself back time and time again, to study.
As a young boy I recall driving across the country for days on end with my mother to visit my great grandfather Sully, he was a retired hard rock miner in North Idaho but more importantly, a beekeeper. Near his dozen or so hives he grew a massive garden and I never eat a raspberry to this day without being taken back to those moments in his garden competing with his bees for space and fruits. Sully gave me my first sip of beer, my first slice of cow-tongue cooked on open fire and of course, my first honeycomb. Bees have forever played a visible role in my life and with this latest and final large inked installation of I pay homage and more with a dozen or so Bees plus a large hive. Pics soon: the gun fires @ 3pm Pacific.
Pictured here is the Sully the Beekeeper.
