Ive been talking about it for months in roundabout ways but now the ball is officially rolling. There is a blog as well, but she sleeps behind the curtains still, not yet ready for her first steps.
I have been risking it all the past few months, stealing into organic Whole Foods type places and then staggering out clutching my chest as I gasped for fresh air, all in the name of research: what are other beekeepers scuttling around calling thier products? Moms honey, Grammas Bees etc etc….Natures Gold…..all very boring and predictable sorts of things. From the moment I thought about my bees last year, I knew I needed a good name, but I wasnt sure what it would be, nor where I would put them even and then one day last Summer whilst delivering a pack of smokes and a half gallon of gin to my buddy Jerry, I strolled into his backyard for the first time and immediately knew this was the spot. Lilac drapes the house while massive plum trees bloom violently above a blackberry patch which sits adjacent an old wooden ship in the midst of restoration, Jerry’s beloved “Black Wind”. There is a feral bee population there already, this place is a mecca for foraging insects, pollen gatherers. Its intense being there, a true Nectary. What is the point of managing your own Apiary you ask? Most people think income, it seems. Can you imagine me in a farmers market all weekend under a 10 x 10 tent, pulling off my trusty flask? No. Money isnt the objective here, instead I anticipate long hours into the Summer sunset with the moleskin and a bottle, just sort of…being. Truth: I cant wait. All the classes are over, all the gear is scored and I get to build everything by my own hand. Hell, most of it would have gotten done last night if I hadnt called a safety meeting 10 minutes into the project. Everybody knows it isnt a safety meeting if its not at the LOCAL GREEK JOINT, you can imagine where the night went from there.
I will launch the website soon and keep everything over there, leaving Ninja Motorhome to her own wayward devices wobbling into the future as she has for over a year now; which is to say: recklessly. In the meantime follow Shipwreck Honey on Twitter and join the facebook group if you would, I thank you kindly gents and ladies.
Heres to the bees.

If your a dude youve seen it, if your not; youve done it….we all know about the sex calendar or more famously….The Smiley System. I will never forget the first one I saw that related directly to me and ever since then I have kept one of my own. Some years I keep smiley faces, some years I just use the letter S….but at the end of each calendar quarter I add up my emoticons/letters and rejoice in what I have done. As you may expect: the more I have, the happier I am. This year…so far…I have tallied 48 S’s since Nov 26, 2009.
Since day one, an emoticon or S=Shred.
48 days this year! Just added em up on the overall calendar I use, not just the ones for Stevens Pass.
Pretty impressive isnt it.
All of it made possible by a murdered out motorhome and a give a damn attitude about how late I get up there.
Stay Low, Be Powerful!

“I was getting all these calls from the friends and brothers and sisters from past employees all over the country,” said Ms. Gordon Knowlton, now in her 30th year of business. “When unemployment is up, people get frustrated, and they’re saying: ‘Wait a second, I’m just spinning my wheels. I might as well start researching what I want to do but have fun, get to ski and enjoy myself rather than just living in the city being miserable, not having a job and not knowing what to do.’ ”

Indeed, the prospect of running out of money in a city or moving back home with parents has prompted 20-somethings from around the country to ride out the recession in Aspen — if not exactly enjoying the luxuries the town offers tourists, at least partaking of the scenery and cheap skiing.

When I first walked into the Bee Clinic last Thursday I was immediately overcome with all sorts of smells: the sharpness of wax, sweetness of honey and crisp fragrant wood frames for hive building. I want my house to smell the same way…it was really good. REALLY good.
In 4 to 5 more weeks I will be a beekeeper. I already want to get technical with it, I want to buck all the odds of urban beekeeping and time my little harvests with the nectar flows I know I will score, instead of the easier once a year harvest where you get a conglomerate of pollens making <del datetime="2010-02-24T03:08:51+00:00">mutt </del>“urban” honey. I want small scores like the cherry, blackberry and lilac flows. I want the same thing with this that Ive always wanted with everything but Winter: Boutique/Cottage/Specialty Acts/Perfectionism/Low Volume-High Demand.

I need to build a new website/bloggo for this dont I….
I want this project pretty bad..
