Re: the joint: Ive mentioned the old Benbow once or twice before, I hang out there a couple times a month, I drag people in there like its some kind of shanghai joint…..I’mean c’mon: its the hull of a ship where the pour one hell of a drink. Whats not to love?

There is no website for either so you will have to take my word for it. Thats a partial truth, the Rodeo’s have a site but frankly it sucks. Trust me. Or google it. Or dont.

Earlier this year we recorded two new songs and we are releasing them in 2011 as a 7″ single. One of them is a reference to a Seattle pirate bar (The Benbow Room) where my band hangs out after rehearsal. It’s turned out to be our favorite drinking spot and band club house. It seemed only fair to reference it in a recording. The song is titled Captain of the Ship. I’m the Captain, of course.

Im fucking exhausted.

Normally, news pithy as this wouldnt see light of day @ Ninja BUT: See who’s playing role of Blackbeard? oh yes…..what better role could be cast for Ian McShane after such lofty heights as the great Al Swearengen. There is no better role, Blackbeard is the scurviest dog of all time and McShane will do him proper.
I like the series but Ive never seen a complete film in one setting from it, I reckon that changes now.

Medieval Sunday!!

Driving between snowboard shops Sunday on a last minute gear scramble I happened to pass by GasWorks park where I randomly spotted a fully bedecked medieval Knight (accompanied by glorious wench) lurking on a forested knoll alongside a small child which I mistakenly assumed was an elf! I freaked out and jammed gears into the parking lot, leaping out with camera and an Irish determination to hunt the wench, elf and Knight down. In total disbelief I stealthily crept into the forest where I last saw them, suddenly I smelled food (rotisserie chicken?)….some sort of medieval feast it seemed was happening, splendid crucibles and chalices were noted, glinting in the mid day sun as they were bandied about by….more knights in full armour??? I heard a wench call out to a child who responded in kind and then through the branches of the dense fir I was hiding behind I saw a colorful display in an empty field, an arena of sorts. That display was a sword wielding Knight calling out to anyone who would try his hand and meet death, who would come he bellowed! Who would heed the call of certain death or glory!! Are there none among you?!?!?! FOOLS!
ok none of that is true, there was no roaring challenge but there should have been.
The knight was however taunting the field of possible opponents with peacockery and panache, strutting about wonderfully like a bird in heat as noted below.
Finally answering the call, a horrifying spectre approached the arena; some sort of orc it seemed…..strode forth with bloody confidence to destroy the Man, the Man in fact who very much appeared before my minds’ eye as one of the lost Sons of Gondor. I was hoping to hear the Horn of Gondor trumpet but alas, it was not to be. The Orc carried a maul/warhammer, bloodied at its violent tip and accompanied by no shield, as other opponents were so adorned. Orc was a menacing fright to behold.

Dirtbag Ball

The Rendezvous landed on the greatest weekend of all time for ski-bums in the PACNW: the Dirtbag Ball at Crystal Mountain. If you dont know what it is, it doesnt matter….its easy to explain: Ski Patrol sells tickets to a huge rager in a private lodge and tells everyone to dress up and go nuts, which we did; sometime in the middle of the party they crown a King and Queen as Dirtballs for the year. Dirtball being defined as the most hardcore ski bum on the hill for that particular year. Upon crowning they are awarded some gear, a hat and bragging rights for the season. Its one hell of a party, one of the best ones Ive seen in fact, we had a damn fine time consorting with the locals that night. Interesting to note: after last call I met the new Queen of the Mtn and she was telling me all sorts of stories, the most interesting one being her other award as Queen: free booze for the year. Im impressed of course. Covetous even.
I got shanghai’d by two dark eyed, raven haired gypsy sisters that night, I shoulda seen those two a mile away and maybe I did, and maybe that was the problem but thats what I get. They had me pegged the day before I think……..
The Dirtbag Ball is big time, the real deal and by god we are going back next year for more. The only rule is you have to dress up, I was lucky I had the tree suit in my closet.
Here are 50-odd pics I took that night.
I tell you what, that place BLEW UP when the dj dropped this jam. Every time I hear this I will think of that night now.
